The Conservative Case for Trump

As the Ted Cruz supporters go through the post defeat healing process, here are just a few things to think about — starting with Newt Gingrich from a couple of days ago:

You’re either for Hillary Clinton or you’re for Donald Trump. If you’re not for Donald Trump, you are functionally helping Hillary Clinton. I think it’s just that straightforward.

The conservative press tries — often does well — but sometimes fails big time. Here are a few things that Donald Trump has said he supports that many probably don’t know about. First, from David Prentice at American Thinker:

  1. The Wall. He wants to stop illegal immigration.
  2. The Islamic threat. He does not want it to come here. He did not want a repeat of Europe’s mistake. He is the only candidate to say what needs to be done: a temporary moratorium on Muslims coming here.
  3. Our need to have a great military again. He knows we need that and to give help for our veterans.
  4. We need to smash ISIS, and radical Islam everywhere.
  5. We need to jump start our economy. Bring jobs, be pro-business, pro-capitalist, better trade agreements.
  6. Protect our Second Amendment.
  7. Repeal and replace Obamacare.
  8. His pro-life conversion is actually believable. He is pro-life.
  9. He wants to cut spending, except for the military.
  10. He wants to make America strong, respected, and for us to be proudly patriotic once again.
  11. He is against common core, and wants locally controlled education.
  12. He is for reducing regulation and the scope of the federal government.

There are lots more good and conservative policies, but this is enough to say for now.

Notice those encompass two things: They highlight the most important issues of our day, and they encompass the three-legged stool of Ronald Reagan. These are issues most conservatives like.

Trump, Larry Kudlow writes, “the ultimate outsider, is going to be a very disruptive force when he gets to Washington. And that’s a good thing. It will finally re-launch America in a positive direction.”

Here is Clarice Feldman also at American Thinker:

If you are still on the fence about who to vote for in the general election, I’d like to highlight some facts and opinions in contrast to the #NeverTrumpers.

There’s this from an online friend “Ignatz Ratzkywatzky” in response to the claim that Trump is no “true conservative”:

He helped on Reagan’s campaigns.

He endorsed McCain and Romney.

He contributed 136 times to the GOP and 86 times to Dems since 1999; exclusively GOP since 2010.

13 of his 17 five figure contributions were to the GOP; exclusively GOP since 2008.

He has stated a number of conservative opinions through the years.

He is not particularly conservative but cherry picked or simply wrong assertions are not convincing.

The amusing thing is seeing quasi-conservative neocons like Kristol, the very essence of their movement being dissatisfaction with and turning away from their Dem roots, speaking in high dudgeon and declaring anathema a quasi-conservative guy who became dissatisfied with and turned away from his Dem roots.

To say there’s a bit of disagreement on the right is an understatement. Here’s the title of a piece by Wayne Allyn Root at Townhall: “Trump Isn’t Just Conservative, He’s the Most Conservative Presidential Candidate Since Reagan.” I’ll let you read it for yourself.
