Conservative Failures Explain Why Donald Trump Is Winning

Many, many Republicans, conservatives, and Christians have been completely breaking down mentally because of the rise of Donald Trump. It’s a sad sight, especially because almost none of them understand the reason for their own breakdown. I’m convinced their reaction is profoundly psychological. Deep inside their subconscious they know they’re part of the problem. Their failure to reach more Americans with the conservative message over many decades has produced the circumstances that have led to Trump’s success. The pain they are experiencing is producing the largest nervous breakdown — in both magnitude and numbers of people — any of us will probably ever witness in our lifetimes.

We’ve never seen a reaction like this. Donald Trump’s candidacy is, according to these people, the worst thing to ever happen in politics. Bill Clinton was nothing. Barack Obama, a piece of cake. Hillary and Bernie — small potatoes. No, Trump is what’s bad. Awful. Disgusting. Horrible. Frightening. Yes, I’m only scratching the surface. Every negative thing that can possibly be said about a person is being said about Trump — and we’re not done yet. Every day conservative writers find more reasons Trump means the end of America. The latest thing to do is to put together lists — and lists of links — to Trump’s words and actions of the past. Did you know Donald said…? Were you aware what Donald did…?

The Supreme Court decision last summer about pseudo homo-marriage didn’t even bring about this type of response. And certainly our open borders, our $20 trillion dollar debt, tens of trillions more in unfunded liabilities — didn’t either. The deal with Iran? C’mon, that’s nothing. The reaction of the Trump critics to all those things was incredibly tame by comparison. Obamacare ruining the already government-screwed up health care system? No big deal. American taxpayer funded K-college schools? Well, next to Trump those schools are first rate and run efficiently. Again, I’m only scratching the surface.

It wouldn’t be easy for me to count the number of writers who I greatly admire and agree with on almost everything else — who are part of the national conservative crack-up over The Donald.

The 2016 presidential campaign has been completely shaped by the Republican and conservative and Christian failure in the information war. Hey, all you “brilliant” writers at National Review — did you know you’re not having much of an influence in the country because your writings are read mostly by a small percentage of the choir? And all you Townhall.com writers — it’s always fun for me to see that almost every one of you has to weigh in on every single topic multiple times during each week. At some point I hope you wake up to the fact that if you’re not reaching the uninformed and misinformed, you’re a political entertainer.

Rarely is there any attention given to the fact that Republicans, conservatives, and Christians long ago ceded to the far political left the societal institutions that are the primary carriers of information: the K-college schools, the dominant media, and pop culture.

We own talk radio and have a growing presence on the Web, and that’s great. But it’s not sufficient. Few Americans understand free market capitalism and the kids are gravitating towards socialism. Seriously — socialism! Can we be bigger failures?

Just think — for decades, so many National Review writers have been wonderfully articulating the problems with socialism and the benefits of a free market based economy combined with limited government. Yet the kids today support Bernie Sanders — and the truth is, it’s not just the kids. We still have a nation packed with low information voters sixty years after National Review began. Hello? And Trump is the problem?

My point is a simple one. If any of the big name political writers understand what is being overlooked when it comes to our failure in the information war, I will be shocked. And I say that having been a fan of many of them for years.

Trump’s support is a plurality right now — I’m guessing it’ll be a landslide majority in the fall. Forget those polls saying Trump can’t win. I’m sure those same polls say Trump can’t fill auditoriums with tens of thousands of people — which he continues to do.

Here’s the thing that all these Trump-hating Republicans, conservatives, and Christians fail to grasp. All those people choosing The Donald over The Marco or The Ted consider the political and governmental arena worse than anything Trump has said or done. And they’re right.

As bad as Trump is accused of being, the public is choosing him instead of the other candidates because Donald is reaching them. He’s getting them to listen. The message is crude, but it’s being heard. The other candidates are not being heard. Similarly, most of the articles written by those wise National Review columnists are not being read.

If you’re failing to grasp my message, please read the previous two paragraphs several more times — here they are:

Funny, isn’t it? The crackup of the commentators should’ve come a long time ago. Like when Clinton took out GHWBush. Or when Bob Dole got the nomination. Or after eight years of GWBush failing to govern according to conservative principles. If those eight years weren’t enough, the nomination of John McCain should’ve rang some bells. How about when Obama won in 2008 promising to fundamentally transform the country? Surely the NR writers would see a problem. Nope. National Review endorsed Mitt Romney who received the GOP nomination in 2012 and helped Obama win again.

And four more years passed. Still, the synapses didn’t fire. Practically no one other than me is crying out in an attempt to wake our side up to the massive communications failure taking place during my entire adult life.

We’re losing the information war in large part because our side doesn’t want to face reality. If you write political commentary as a conservative you probably feel good about yourself. Why allow your mind to go to that really negative dark place which suggests your amazing intellect and analysis isn’t having much of an impact? That is depressing and potentially damaging to self esteem.

Oh, but then Trump rises up — and the pundit class wakes up to the horror! Unfortunately, they’re still not conscious of their own failure to reach enough people, or win enough hearts and minds. Over the course of decades.

It’s sad and pathetic. As mental breakdowns so often are.
