Franklin Graham Thankful for the Release of Kim Davis

Franklin Graham has been supportive of Kim Davis all along. Of course: Kim has been standing on the Word of God, as have Franklin and his father, beloved evangelist Billy Graham.

Today on Facebook Franklin commented:

I’m thankful to God for the release of ‪#‎KimDavis‬ and for all those who have prayed and stood with her as she was jailed for refusing to sign marriage licenses for same-sex couples as Clerk of Court in Rowan County, KY.

I appreciate the fact that she stood firmly by her strong, heartfelt convictions. In a day when hardened criminals convicted of violent crimes are too often quickly released from jail, it is a real miscarriage of justice for someone like Kim Davis to be locked up because of her religious beliefs.

Even though Kim has now been released, we need to realize that the battle for religious liberty in this country is in no way over.

The Supreme Court may have legalized same-sex marriage, but it has not secured the religious freedom guaranteed to us by the First Amendment.

Please pray for this ongoing battle.

Yesterday Graham’s reaction to Donald Trump opposing Kim Davis’ actions and stand:

Donald J. Trump said that ‪#‎KimDavis‬ should follow “the law of the land.” He should know that just because something is made into a law, doesn’t make it right.

His Scottish Presbyterian ancestors may have been among those who had their heads cut off because they refused to recognize the King of England as head of the church. They believed that Jesus Christ was the head of the church, not the King of England; and they stood for–and died for–those sincerely held religious beliefs.

Our forefathers gave us freedom of religion at a great cost, and that was meant for us to be able to live out our faith in our daily lives, at home and at work.

That’s what Kim Davis is trying to do today–live out her faith. The Supreme Court did not have the right or the authority to redefine marriage. Big mistake.

Amen Franklin!

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
