A news release from Liberty Counsel:
WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump pledged to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. According to sources, President Trump will take the next important step by announcing the move on Monday.
“This is welcomed news that is long overdue. That city is the eternal and undivided capital of Israel. Jerusalem became the capital of Israel when King David captured the Jebusite stronghold 3,000 years ago,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, President of Christians in Defense of Israel, and Founder and Chairman of Covenant Journey.
What most people fail to realize is that Congressional effort to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem is not new. On October 23, 1995, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995. The law passed the Senate by 93-5 and the House by 374-37. The law required the embassy to be moved to Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999. But the law was never implemented because of opposition from former Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama.
“Those who oppose moving the embassy to Jerusalem argue it will hurt the so-called peace process. The fact is the Hamas terrorist government in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah do not want peace and will never recognize Israel’s right to exist. Israel does exist and Jerusalem is its capital. It is time for the United States to move the embassy to Jerusalem and lead the way for other nations to follow our example,” said Staver.
Christians in Defense of Israel is an education and advocacy organization.
Covenant Journey provides Christian college-age students who have leadership potential with a life-changing journey in Israel to strengthen their Christian faith and equip them to be goodwill ambassadors for Israel. Students who are selected pay $500 and the rest of the journey is underwritten, including flights, tour bus, hotels, food, tour guide, leaders, speakers, and more.
